ABOUT BRITTANY

Brittany Alisha Johnson is on the bench at the 23rd District Court.

Appointed by Governor Whitmer to fill a vacancy in March of 2026, I am honored by this opportunity and have received dozens of letters in support of my candidacy in that process from community leaders, district and circuit court judges, and attorneys who have worked with me.

I have a strong background working with people of all walks of life, and I strive for a fair, impartial courtroom that is respectful of everyone who enters.

Outside of the courtroom I love working in my garden, taking care of my pets, crafting, and golfing.

BACKGROUND

I have a background in both social work and law, and this unique lens has allowed me to learn how to remain calm in situations of high emotions, and assist others in navigating stressful and tumultuous events.

EXPERIENCE

After graduation I started graduate school at the University of Louisville, and worked alongside a licensed social worker in an elementary school connecting students and their families in need to resources in the community.

I attended Grand Valley State University where I volunteered with youth in foster care with Bethany Christian Services and with Pine-Rest Christian Mental Health.

During law school at Michigan State University, I interned with the 30th Circuit Court intensive juvenile probation program and with the legislative and research wing of the ACLU of Michigan.

After law school I worked with the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan, at a law firm specializing in immigration, and with the City of Dearborn’s legal department on civil issues.

Immediately prior to taking the bench I was working at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. I worked on hundreds of assaultive crimes from misdemeanor domestic violence to child homicides.

I worked mainly on the Child Abuse Team prosecuting physical and sexual abuse cases involving children under 16 years old. I was also heavily involved in prosecuting cases involving the online sexual exploitation of children.
